Kimono Exhibit in Kyoto
“Kyoto Kimono: Inspired Grace and Elegance
from Momoyama to Edo”
We were lucky enough to be in Kyoto the opening day of this exhibit at The Museum of Kyoto (on Sanjodori). I was delighted (but a bit surprised) to see that more than half of the visitors that day were wearing kimono! Men and women, old and young – it was inspiring! Our local guide told me later that Kyoto is encouraging a resurgence of kimono appreciation and many of the local businesses will give a discount to patrons wearing kimono. Lower taxi fares, free bus transit, discounts at eateries…everyone is taking part!
